Oral Health Unit

Oral health is a key indicator of overall health, wellbeing and quality of life. Activities of the oral health unit is mainly focused on support, coordinate, manage, monitor and evaluate the established oral health service in Matara District and further strengthen its capability by developing the infrastructure for the services with support the relevant individuals and organizations.

Major Activities and Services

Supervision , Management and Administration of all school Dental Clinics and Hospital Dental Clinics in the District under the administrative control of RDHS
Collect, compile and analyze statistics and relevant data pertaining to the dental services in the district and also provide a feedback.
Be responsible for supply of drugs ,equipments, materials and maintenance and repair of equipments in all dental clinics in the District.
Advice, support and supervise all oral health programmes in the region.
Be responsible for district oral health plans and represent the oral health service and planning matters at provincial leve
Maintain inter-sectoral co-ordination with relevant government and non governmental organization for the betterment of the service
Organize in-service training programmes and workshops for all dental staff in the region
Recommend and advice the PDHS and RDHS on the opening of new dental clinics and maintenance of existing clinics.
Be responsible for the identification of dental public health problems, carry out epidemiological surveys and health system research in the region.
Should be represented on the transfer board of S.D.T and recommend transfers according to available carders.
