Anti Rabies Unit

After the decentralization of the National Rabies Control Campaign which was previously implemented island wide, this unit will function as the Matara District Unit of the campaign. This unit is operated by a Public Health Inspector in charge under the direct supervision of the District Director of Health Services. The main goal of Rabies campaign is to eliminate the human rabies cases.

Since dogs are the leading cause of rabies in humans, programs are being implemented to control rabies in dogs. For this purpose, dog vaccination programs are implemented and sterilization surgeries are performed to control the dog population. People who have been bitten are treated through the hospital system and community awareness programs are implemented.
